Testsie Roll: Kodak Portra 400

Can you believe it? My first film roll ever is a Kodak Portra 400 that I bought from B&H and shipped to Uganda by an overpriced third party shipping company. I also bought my first film camera since its prime around this time. I picked a Canon-A1 with 50mm f1.4 lens because based on the reviews and countless Youtube videos that I watched, it’s a good beginner camera.

Right now, I rarely use my A-1 but I still brought it with me in Japan. I’m just waiting for the perfect timing to bring a bulky SLR when I travel. Maybe next time when I travel for leisure. My trips as of the moment are mostly work-related so I couldn’t lug a 2lb camera around my neck when I go out.

I love how the pictures turned out. The scans are a bit off because I processed the film locally. Not bad for a USD3 processing fee. The scans are low quality though.

I’m still testing the camera at this point. Looking back now I realize what I’m missing with not shooting SLRs. I mostly use aperture priority when I shoot. I could go full manual but who has the time?

I realize now that Kodak films veer on the warm side compared to Fujifilm which is on the cool side so the greens and blues are really punchy. My preference change from time to time so I can’t decide which one is my favorite but right now, I want warmer tones.

Alright. I’m thinking of this style. Not too much talking and explaining. Actually I didn’t explain much about the film. My bad. Treat this is an introduction. See you next time!
